2024 was a year full of blessings, loss and growth at the Current.
When my co-founder, Brendan, made me aware of his decision to leave due to his need to focus on his primary business and livelihood, I was left feeling a sense of - should I bother to keep the space going? That time was difficult.
Despite doubt that I had, I found incredible connection with our small and mighty community and onward, we went. I am so amazed at how great the year was and am excited for 2025!
Last year, i made connections in various ways in our local community. One of the highlights of the summer was getting to share Kundalini Yoga and Sound Healing at Reggae on West Beach, in the same neighborhood as our center. Cynthia, Simran and Kenny were there to share yoga and drumming as well. I also got to teach Kundalini Yoga with New Bedford Wellness Initiative for their outdoor yoga series at Haskell Gardens, and demonstrated Breathwalking with their Saturday series, walk with a doc. Throughout the year, in studio, we had many offerings from guest healers and teachers. I benefited so much from this and got to sample medicine from other Divinely brilliant beings!
We began a monthly series called Current Thoughts! A poetry open mic with Anomaly Poetry. Justin Gagne from The Saving Light helped us kick off a vibrant drum circle early on in the year. The success of his offering later made me start a monthly by-donation free form drum and dance circle that the community loves to partake in. At the end of 2024, our neighbors from Together Press down the hall and Molly O'Leary music hosted the first of hopefully many heartfelt singer/songwriter events in our little space, free for the community.
I offered a summer solstice event and sound healing journeys regularly, and taught Kundalini Yoga on different days, but consistently every Wednesday night to a group of women, who have become dear friends. We call it Shakti Ladies Lounge, which beyond Kundalini Yoga, is a space for sharing and connection for women, even those who have never tried yoga before.
Sat Hari began to offer advanced meditations and trainings to our global community with us online in 2024, became a board member, and now leads our yogic and meditation training programs. Sat Hari also offers 1:1 services with us from her vast experience in Human Design, Vedic Astrology and Astrocartograph.  As one of the trainers from my Kundalini Yoga training, and a mentor and dear friend, I am so grateful to have her on our team.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Without you, this beautiful community would not be blossoming and becoming what it continues to be, a safe space for the community to feel and be free. Thank you to you who have come to our in person or online classes and trainings. Thank you to everyone who stopped in for conversations and sharing whether during an offering, or just by hanging out in our welcoming space.
Special shout out to Leah, the Galivanting Ginger, our "unseen" board member and friend who motivates us from behind the scenes, as well as fulfills the duties of being my thinking partner and delightful catering coordinator, and musical advisor, thank you.
Because of you all, our beautiful and bright community center within the Kilburn Mill, New Bedford became a space for uplifting events. The organizational mission that we have as this 501(c)(3) charity, advocating for holistic and Spiritual, Mental and Physical (integrative health) for all began to grow.
On a personal level, I struggled with a lot of loss in 2024. But one thing was constant and evident, and that was the need for community in my life. And even as a facilitator, I found light in coming to teach and host events at The Current. I met so many people in 2024 that will be long term friends and colleagues. Our village is growing!
A little news about our physical space and the in-person offerings:
At this time, I am traveling and giving myself some space to heal. While Sat Hari is offering online trainings and 1:1s, our center is currently closed for an extended period, and will re-open on March 1st. In March, we will celebrate our 2nd year in business! We have collaborations brewing as I write this. Just like Mother Earth brings more and more sunshine each day for the seeds that will sprout daffodils; we will have offerings to ignite and empower the community. Thank you again for the support and I look forward to seeing you in March and beyond!
